Why Wax?
Why wax?
My first memory of hair removal was watching my mom with an at home waxing kit (The microwave kind - you know what's up ) getting those pesky lip hairs.
Aside from that, I had no clue about hair removal. Puberty hit at a young age 11, and with my cycle, of course, came the hair. My relationship with my hair is much different now, but as someone who was socialized as female, I was often teased for my hair. I loved having hair under my arms. I felt "European". Often it would be pointed out that I was a hirsute person. As a gender queer teenager, being hairy was my act of rebellion.
When I started my career path, waxing just happened to be part of the Esthetics track. I learned full body waxing, head to toe. What an experience! I was frequently chosen to be the model in class as I was the one with the most hair and, by default, the best person to practice on. To my good fortune, this ultimately taught me how a bad wax felt.
Over time, I came to find the services that I love to get and give. Yes, even waxing! I still practice hair positivity, and I love myself, furry or not. I hope that you find Wax Downtown to be a safe place to present yourself just as you are!
